Irakli Kobakhidze: Approximately GEL 20 million has been seized, which will go to the state budget - When we talk about wanting to "extract money" here, yes, we do want to extract money for the budget

Approximately GEL 20 million has been seized. This money will go to Georgia's state budget and compensate for the losses incurred due to specific alleged corruption facts - When we talk about wanting to extract money here or something else, yes, we do want to extract money for the budget, - Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

Journalists also inquired about the progress of the criminal case against former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and its political assessment, to which Irakli Kobakhidze stated that he "does not intend to make a political assessment of the case."

"When it comes to an investigation, only the relevant agencies will answer about the investigation. [Regarding Irakli Garibashvili's case,] I do not intend to make any comment; everyone should wait for the investigation to proceed. I do not intend to make a political assessment on this topic - no comment on this! As for the seizure of funds, approximately GEL 20 million has been seized, as far as I know, and of course, this entire amount will go to Georgia's state budget. The state budget will be compensated for the losses incurred due to specific alleged corruption facts. As for responsibility, the agencies will answer that. As for our responsibility, liability may arise if there were no objective circumstances that made it impossible to take specific steps. In conditions where we had to fight on very difficult fronts, delving deeply into certain things may have been impossible.

Since February 8, 2024, when the new government was formed, we have taken numerous measures to maximally eliminate corruption in our country. When we talk about whether we want to extract money here or something else, yes, we do want to extract money for the budget. We demonstrate our attitude toward corruption not only by looking into past cases but also by taking every step since February 8, 2024, to ensure that government activities are transparent and that all procedures - including tenders, privatization, etc. - are conducted in absolute transparency. This primarily shows our attitude. We have taken every step to prevent corruption in our country, and the results are visible to society," Kobakhidze stated.
