Shalva Papuashvili: The European Parliament has turned the Euronest platform into a tool of blackmail - Given the hostile approaches from these forces in the European Parliament, the Georgian delegation will not participate in future Euronest sessions

It is clear that the European Parliament has turned the Euronest platform into a tool for blackmailing neighboring countries and forcibly imposing its own narrow political agenda - Taking into account the hostile and narrow political approaches from these forces in the European Parliament, Georgia's permanent parliamentary delegation will not participate in future Euronest sessions, - Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili writes on Facebook.

Papuashvili calls on the European Parliament to "abandon its narrow political agenda and respect the rules-based international order."

"It is known to the public that the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, in which Georgia's permanent parliamentary delegation did not participate, adopted several resolutions. By tradition, these documents should have included visions for the further development of the Eastern Partnership initiative, as well as promoting dialogue and partnership among its member states.

Certain European Parliament members known for their hostile, unjust, and politically biased positions toward Georgia added provisions to the resolution texts that are completely unacceptable and outrageous for Georgian society. Among them, one resolution refers to the 2024 parliamentary elections as 'falsified' and the government elected by the people as 'self-proclaimed.' It also calls individuals who attacked police officers and state institutions - and against whom court convictions have been issued - 'political prisoners,' thereby completely disregarding the rule of law standards.

It is clear that the European Parliament has turned the Euronest platform into a tool for blackmailing neighboring countries and forcibly imposing its own narrow political agenda. It is categorically unacceptable when Euronest disregards the will of the Georgian population and, in this way, beyond its founding mandate, arbitrarily annuls the elections and democratic institutions of a member country according to its own views.

Accordingly, given the hostile and narrow political approaches from these forces in the European Parliament, Georgia's permanent parliamentary delegation will not participate in future Euronest sessions.

We once again call on the European Parliament to abandon its narrow political agenda and respect the rules-based international order. Its current anti-democratic approaches are a direct path to the self-isolation and marginalization of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.

Georgia has always made a constructive, fruitful, and significant contribution to the Eastern Partnership initiative. Should appropriate conditions arise for constructive dialogue from the European Parliament, Georgia's parliamentary delegation will be ready to re-engage in this parliamentary platform of the Eastern Partnership," Papuashvili's statement reads.
