Tengiz Sharmanashvili: That's why we did not participate in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly: we knew our so-called tireless friends would commit some unprecedented injustice, and that's exactly what happened - We didn't think they would go this far with their lies

That's why we did not participate in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly: those organizing it from the European Parliament side, those who were active, are our so-called tireless friends, and we knew they would commit some scandalous and unprecedented injustice - and indeed, that's what happened, - "Georgian Dream" deputy Tengiz Sharmanashvili told journalists.

According to Sharmanashvili, they expected anything from the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, but they didn't think they would go so far as to call the Georgian government illegitimate.

"Nothing was hard to predict, but we really didn't think they would lie to this extent and say they do not recognize the government and that it is illegitimate. But they went that far because these people have constantly claimed this without providing any evidence, always speaking with their fabricated narratives. Therefore, we cannot tolerate such an unserious attitude. We knew this in advance, we assumed it, and did not participate; we will not participate in the future either. Until they correct these approaches, because it is impossible to have relations with such people. They themselves say it is illegitimate, while at the same time, letters come from European structures urging us to follow procedures so that Russia cannot bypass the sanctions imposed by Europe, and they thank us for doing it well so far and suggest we continue cooperation in the future. When there is such an unformed and contradictory attitude, of course, we cannot take it seriously. Until they return to serious formats of relations, we have nothing to do there," Sharmanashvili stated.

In response to the question of whether the government's decision not to participate in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in the future might provoke a harsher reaction from Europe, including in the enlargement report, Sharmanashvili noted that they do not look at the steps taken in Georgia and only act according to their plan to incite revolutionary processes.

"Don't think they are watching our steps. They have their own set plan to incite revolutionary processes, and they will implement it in any situation. It was not us who boycotted Euronest; Euronest boycotted Georgia. They are boycotting truth and justice, and of course, this was our response. We expect nothing good because, on one hand, Eurobureaucracy publishes ratings on its sites regarding Georgia where we are leaders in every parameter, and on the other hand, they claim there is a backslide in democracy. What justice can you expect from such people? We expect no justice. We do not think that if we had made a statement on Euronest, they would adopt better resolutions in the future. No, of course, these are destructive elements who even supported the storming of the President's palace when it was happening. What can you expect from such people if you have common sense - and we do have common sense," Sharmanashvili stated.

For reference, according to the statement of Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, Georgia's permanent parliamentary delegation will not participate in future Euronest sessions. The Parliament Speaker explained the decision by the hostile attitude manifested toward Georgia from certain forces in the European Parliament.
