Shalva Papuashvili: If anyone has suffered setbacks, it is precisely the current governing institutions of the European Union - therefore, it is not surprising that Brussels avoids dialogue and prefers an arrogant tone

According to the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, the enlargement report on Georgia presented today by the European Commission is “a Georgia seen from the Brussels office, which has nothing to do with the real Georgia.”

As Papuashvili stated at the briefing, the report organically combines outdated political accusations, lies, hostile rhetoric, and intentional harm.

“Today is November 4, and I would like to begin my briefing by reminding you that exactly one month ago, on October 4, radical political groups, supported by some representatives from Brussels, violently stormed the presidential palace. The state narrowly escaped bloodshed and a return to the chaos of the past. It would be good, at least today, to hear Brussels’ clear, unambiguous position on radical groups in Georgia, on the overthrow of the government, behind which, not without argument, the threads go back to Brussels itself. This very fact is the clearest illustration of the background or attitude towards how the Georgian state, the Georgian people and their choices are treated by the European bureaucracy.

A bureaucracy that is full with a hidden political agenda, an arrogant attitude and disrespect towards all those countries that do not show obedience, try to make decisions independently and exercise their sovereign right to govern the state. A good example of this is the enlargement report on Georgia presented by the European Commission today, where outdated political accusations, lies, hostile rhetoric and intentional harm are organically combined. This is Georgia seen from the Brussels office, which has nothing to do with the real Georgia. This is exactly the spirit that has become a tradition, in which the current EU enlargement report is presented, where the Georgian section is sewn with white thread.

The part of the report that evaluates the country's progress based on measurable parameters is written in an extremely dry and terse manner, while the political part of the report is sharply aggressive and unfair. That is why we would like to clearly state that if anyone has suffered setbacks as a result of such an unfair, biased, anti-democratic, anti-polarizing and destructive attitude, it is precisely the current governing institutions of the European Union. Therefore, it is not surprising that Brussels avoids dialogue and prefers an arrogant tone," said Shalva Papuashvili.
