Salome Zurabishvili: A very difficult day has come - the candidate status, which was received festively two years ago, has been assessed today by the European Union as a sham and has been practically frozen - we must all come out and respond from Rustaveli!

For me personally and for us, the pro-European majority of Georgia, a very difficult day has come! - the fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, writes on social networks, responding to the enlargement report presented by the European Commission today.

According to her, the candidate status granted two years ago, has been assessed today by the European Union as a sham and practically frozen.

Salome Zurabishvili calls on citizens to take to Rustaveli to defend the European path.

"The anti-Georgian, anti-European and Russian policy of the Georgian Dream has brought the expected and tragic result for the country. The candidate status, which was received festively two years ago, has been assessed today by the European Union as a sham and practically frozen.

The Commission has clearly and in detail described how - in all directions - the Georgian Dream has distanced Georgia from European principles, the path and its future.

We cannot allow this! We cannot tolerate such a seizure of the state, a change in its orientation and a deliberate loss of this historic chance.

We know that this regime will not fix anything, will not implement any reforms, will not give up anti-European rhetoric and will continue to regress under Russian dictates.

Therefore, we must know that returning to this path depends only on us! There will be no path to Europe except by strengthening the protest, strengthening unity and free elections!

Therefore, we must all come out and respond from Rustaveli! Let us once again make our European voice heard! Let us defend our European path!!! We will not tolerate this! ", - Salome Zurabishvili writes.
