Irakli Kobakhidze: Georgia once again confirms its readiness to continue cooperation in increasing transport flows between China and Europe via the Middle Corridor

China has become one of Georgia’s main trading partners — this was stated by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during his speech at the opening ceremony of the China International Import Expo.

According to Kobakhidze, the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement in January 2018, which covers almost 95 percent of Georgian exports, changed the rules of the game and significantly increased trade volumes.

“In the first nine months of 2025 alone, trade turnover reached 1.6 billion US dollars — an impressive 15 percent growth. Such an increase in trade reflects the strength of our bilateral economic relations and points to even greater expansion potential in the coming years. China’s continuous efforts to open its huge market, combined with expanded access to key sectors, create significant opportunities for Georgian businesses, enabling them to enter global markets and adopt innovations.

The number of containers transported via the Middle Corridor between China and Georgia increased by 71 percent from January to August 2025. In addition, the volume of cargo transported in 2024 was 15 times higher than the previous year. Georgia once again confirms its readiness to continue cooperation in increasing transport flows between China and Europe via the Middle Corridor,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.
