“I want to express my great dissatisfaction over the fact that I was not accused of participating in the imposition of sanctions,” said Georgia’s third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, while appearing remotely at the Tbilisi City Court, which is currently considering preventive measures against eight politicians charged with sabotage.
According to Saakashvili, a dictatorship has been established in Georgia, and what is happening now is merely its formal confirmation.
“It’s clear why they are bringing new charges against me — because, for the rest of the world, I alone remain the symbol of Georgia’s freedom and success.
My solidarity goes out to all innocent prisoners and all those accused. What matters most now is our unity, more than ever before. We must act together abroad, send our representatives jointly, and present a united position. We must stop the pointless stings and attacks against each other on various TV channels and social networks. We should not resemble the Russian opposition.
I want to express my great dissatisfaction over the fact that I was not accused of participating in the imposition of sanctions. I took part in advocating for sanctions in the United States and Ukraine, and I contributed to those efforts. I have many friends, and these people trust me.
I am not only in contact with Ukraine — I am a Ukrainian citizen and a great patriot. I defend Ukraine’s interests alongside Georgia’s. By your logic, that makes me directly connected with Georgia’s enemy,” Saakashvili said.
