In this letter [of Pawel Herczyński], Brussels itself confirmed that the narrative that the Georgian government has stopped the process of integration with the European Union, was false and that this process was stopped by Brussels itself in June 2024 due to the Georgian population demanding that Brussels make public the funds it had spent, - Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, told journalists, responding to a letter published by the Rustavi 2 TV company, which was sent by the EU Ambassador to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to him, the aforementioned letter is “another proof of the political energy and money being spent on establishing false narratives in Georgia.”
"This is yet another proof of the political energy and money being spent on establishing false narratives in Georgia. It was a false narrative was that the Georgian government had stopped the process of integration with the European Union. In this letter, Brussels itself confirmed, this is a self-revelation on the part of Brussels, that in fact this process was stopped by Brussels itself in June 2024 because the Georgian population demanded that Brussels make its finances, the money spent in Georgia, public. They could not forgive us this. In our country, Brussels, the EU embassy, spends money and they think we, Georgians cannot even ask what they are spending money on, does this money serve the intended purpose? This also shows the decline in value that Brussels is experiencing. Our call is this, disinformation must be rejected as a political weapon and this will be the first step for Brussels to return to European values," Papuashvili said.
For information, according to Rustavi 2, the EU Ambassador to Georgia sent a letter to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia on November 5, 2025, stating that "Georgia's participation in EU-funded regional programs in the areas of security and organized crime has been suspended." According to them, the EU Ambassador also wrote to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs: "Given the special circumstances in Georgia and in accordance with the conclusions of the European Council of June 27, 2024, which led to the de facto suspension of Georgia's accession process to the EU, I inform you that Georgia's participation in the following EU-funded regional projects in the areas of security and organized crime has been suspended."
