“The Kremlin, in line with Putin’s plan, is using its puppets to undermine the very foundations on which democracy stands in any country,” stated Giorgi Baramidze, Political Secretary of the United National Movement (UNM), in a comment to journalists. He explained the reasons why the party initiated a constitutional lawsuit against Georgian Dream.
“Yesterday, the United National Movement filed a constitutional complaint concerning violations of Georgian law committed by this gang of traitors and criminals. Naturally, it is very important that this process not be seen as only one party’s concern, because it deals with violations of the Constitution of Georgia and the destruction of the foundations of democracy in our country.
This is not merely an action by a Russian-collaborationist regime directed against a single party or aimed solely at abolishing one party. The Kremlin, following Putin’s plan, through its puppets, is trying to destroy in Georgia the very principles that underpin democracy in every country. It is attacking political parties, NGOs, free thought, the media, and any dissenting voice that does not serve its interests,” said Baramidze.
He added that the party has no expectations of an impartial ruling from the Constitutional Court and that the case will ultimately be taken to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
“We have no illusions about success in the pocket Constitutional Court, which is fully controlled by Ivanishvili’s criminal, pro-Russian regime. However, it’s important politically, because this case is entirely politically motivated. The public must know what the truth is and what is propaganda — through this process we will strive to provide society with objective information.
As for the strictly legal aspect, we do not intend to leave the issue in the hands of this captured court. We will go through every necessary stage to bring this case to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, where there will be a real, independent, and impartial court that will provide proper legal assessment and justice,” Baramidze stated.
