The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, states that he does not see any grounds for dismissing Razhden Kuprashvili from the position of the head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Specifically, when asked whether he sees any grounds for dismissing Kuprashvili, Papuashvili replied: "No. Why should I?! It is not my competence to appoint or dismiss people in such an institution."
The Speaker of the Parliament says that in reality, the main challenge facing this agency is its name.
According to Papuashvili, the Anti-Corruption Bureau is not an investigative agency and its function is to verify the declarations of public officials.
"In fact, the main challenge that this agency has is its name. You hear the name 'Anti-Corruption Bureau' and you think that this is an investigative agency that directly fights corruption. This is not so. This is a false narrative that you are trying to establish based on the name. The Anti-Corruption Bureau is an organization that collects declarations of public officials, checks their compliance with data available in public sources, with information stored in state agencies. The parliament has not authorized the bureau to investigate things," Papuashvili said.
For information, the media reported that the head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Razhden Kuprashvili, had been dismissed from his post.
Later, the press service of the Anti-Corruption Bureau called the information false and stated that it did not correspond to the truth.
Razhden Kuprashvili himself told journalists: "I have not been dismissed, do not be afraid."
