According to Lili Gelashvili, the lawyer for former Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, her client is ready to answer all questions of the investigation.
However, as Gelashvili told InterpressNews, apart from giving testimony during the indictment, Gharibashvili was not questioned.
“As you know, as a preventive measure, he was granted bail of one million GEL to be deposited in favor of the budget. This bail was not paid in cash. His house at 10 Moseshvili, where he lives with his family, was assessed by the audit. This real estate was assessed at more than a million and it was this property that was deposited. The law provides for this. It can be secured both with money and with property.
Irakli Gharibashvili is a law-abiding person. He does not intend to leave the country and is ready to answer any questions the investigation may have. However, up to this stage, apart from the testimony he gave during the indictment, he has not been asked any questions," said Lili Gelashvili.
For information, former Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili was granted a GEL 1 million bail as a preventive measure on October 24. The decision was made by Tbilisi City Court Judge Eka Barbakadze. By the judge’s decision, Gharibashvili was also subjected to other additional measures. In particular, his passport was confiscated and he was prohibited from leaving the country.
Irakli Gharibashvili was charged under Article 194, Part 3, Subparagraph “c” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to the legalization of illegal income, accompanied by the receipt of a particularly large amount of income. This crime under the Criminal Code provides for imprisonment from 9 to 12 years.
