Shalva Papuashvili - After returning from the consultation, we hoped that the German ambassador would restrain himself, but he made fun of us - does the German Foreign Ministry want to build bridges or burn them down?

The German Foreign Ministry should decide- what does it want? Does it want to build bridges with the Georgian people or burn these bridges, because under this ambassador, who mocks the Georgian state, supports extremists, and expresses solidarity with a person who insults the Georgian Church and the Patriarch, it is difficult to imagine that these bridges will be built by Germany, - said the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, answering a question regarding the arrival of German Ambassador Peter Fischer at the protest.

According to Papuashvili, Peter Fischer "makes fun of the Georgian state, society, and everything related to diplomacy."

"Not only the public, but I couldn't understand it. It's absolutely outrageous - this person [Peter Fischer] makes a mockery of the Georgian state, society, and everything related to diplomacy. What we saw is surprising - he didn't condemn the October 4 storming of the presidential palace, he came yesterday and expressed support to the extremists who were participants in the October 4 storming; secondly, the person, he was standing with, curses the Georgian Church, the Patriarch of Georgia. The German ambassador stood with these people, took a photo, and expressed solidarity. This reminds me of the line of Michael Roth, who came here and said: What do you want, do you want to achieve happiness together with the Church? This is an attack on the Georgian Church, the line of Michael Roth, which the German ambassador continues today. So, now I personally await what steps the German Foreign Ministry will take, because the fact is, this person [Peter Fischer] is making a mockery of the Georgian state and society,” Papuashvili said.

“After returning from this consultation, we hoped that the German ambassador would understand the importance of the Vienna Convention, reread the relevant articles once again, and finally, after all this, he would at least restrain himself. Not a few days passed and he mocks the entire state and society. He expresses solidarity with those who curse the church. So, let the German Foreign Ministry decide - what does it want? Does it want to build bridges with the Georgian people or burn these bridges, because under the conditions of this ambassador, who makes fun of the Georgian state, supports extremists, expresses solidarity with a person who curses the Georgian church, the patriarch, it is difficult to imagine that these bridges will be built by Germany,” the Speaker of the Parliament said.

As Shalva Papuashvili explained, before the German ambassador returned to Georgia, the foreign ministries of the two countries had consultations and the German Foreign Ministry “promised Georgia that the German ambassador would refrain from such actions that had taken place before.”

“When the German Foreign Ministry returned Ambassador Fischer, they had preliminary consultations with the Foreign Ministry and promised that the German ambassador would refrain from such actions that had taken place before. Not a few days have passed and we see the ambassador together with extremists and expressing solidarity with the slanderer of the Georgian Church and the Patriarch. The Foreign Ministry must clarify - is this its task for the German ambassador to express solidarity with the slanderers of the Georgian Church, support for extremism, or is this again his personal decision?”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
