“About half of our emigrants live in the Russian Federation, and since 2008, polling stations have not been opened in the Russian Federation. Do you recall anyone expressing concern that half of our emigrants were deprived of the right to vote?” — said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during an interview on the Adjara Public Broadcaster’s program Free Space, while commenting on the opposition’s evaluation of the legislative changes.
According to the head of government, this also violated the principle of equality, yet the opponents of the ruling party never expressed concern about that.
“Is it acceptable that one half should have one privilege and the other half should have another privilege? Have you ever heard anyone express concern about this? Their arguments are entirely subjective and are not based on real reasoning. No matter where a person lives, in any country, it is possible that our diplomatic representation is not open there at all — there are many such countries — everyone should have equal conditions. And it is very important to make an informed choice. For that, it is important to come to the country even for one day, to see with your own eyes what is happening here, and based on that, make an informed decision,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
