Regarding the claim that Georgia is helping Russia bypass sanctions, everyone knows it is a lie — something that has been confirmed many times against the backdrop of the hysteria that began against Georgia from the first days of the war in Ukraine, Parliamentary Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said in response to a question about the letter obtained by “Rustavi 2,” which EPP members informally sent to European Commission members, alleging that “Georgia is circumventing sanctions and helping Russia.”
According to him, the EPP wants to spread this lie about Georgia in order to force its political agenda on the country and bring its puppet “United National Movement” to power.
“Everyone knows it is a lie — something confirmed many times against the backdrop of the hysteria that started against Georgia from the first day of the war in Ukraine. The European Union itself had to acknowledge that they could not find a single fact indicating that Georgia’s territory was used to bypass sanctions. And yet, as a neighboring state, there is always a risk that someone could attempt smuggling, but the control system is so well-organized that it didn’t work.
The second point — why does the EPP want to spread such lies about Georgia? It is also obvious: they want to force their political agenda on the country and bring their puppet ‘United National Movement’ to power. Therefore, when a foreign political organization tries to use instruments against Georgia to change the government here, this constitutes hostile activity against Georgia.”
Papuashvili also suggested that the UNM leadership was involved in drafting the letter.
“When we talk about the EPP, we saw that the leadership of the ‘United National Movement’ was abroad, holding meetings with them, and most likely the letter and appeal were prepared with their participation. Therefore, if this letter represents hostile activities against Georgia, then the ‘United National Movement’ and those involved in this process — including the NGOs that take pride in working against Georgia — are assisting in hostile actions against the country.
Incidentally, several politicians from the radical opposition have already been charged under this article. Such cases once again demonstrate to society that they are helping foreign forces engage in hostile activities against Georgia. A letter full of disinformation and false narratives is an act of hostile activity against Georgia. And those passport-holder Georgians, NGOs and politicians involved in it are engaged in hostile activities against the country.”
