We once again declare that we cannot take responsibility for the free expression of will by our citizens outside our jurisdiction, this is our constitutional obligation. We declare that the interest in interfering in the Georgian elections is great, - said the Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili.
As the Speaker of the Parliament states, after the amendments come into force, "pressure on immigrants will no longer be exerted."
"It is noteworthy that there are no objections to the Code, to 99% of its provisions, which is good. There was a need for a new Code, since the text itself was already complicated due to the changes to the old Code, so there is no great criticism. The only issue that the radical opposition is trying to present is the issue of opening or not opening polling stations abroad. The arguments for this are also quite clear, the opposition has not been able to bring anything to counter this. We state once again that we cannot take responsibility for the free expression of will by our citizens outside our jurisdiction, this is our constitutional obligation.
We state that the interest in interfering in the Georgian elections is great, and last year we saw direct, blatant interference in the elections by ambassadors and leaders of various countries, therefore it is expected that this pressure on our emigrants will increase even more than it was last year, when a high-ranking German official, the chairman of the Bundestag committee was himself involved in influencing the will of the voters on the territory of Germany, among others. All this will increase, will be increasing, and that is why this decision was made so that someone in foreign jurisdictions does not try to use our immigrants as a weapon against their own country by putting pressure on them," Papuashvili said.
