I would like to “congratulate” the European capitals on funding xenophobia. If this is not a shame for Europe, the money of which is being spent on xenophobic campaigns, then they either do not know what shame is, or they do not know what xenophobia is, or they do not know what Europe is,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili when answering a journalist’s question about the funding of anti-Eagle Hills publications from European funds.
As Papuashvili noted, it is shameful that Europe is funding xenophobia in Georgia through NGOs that have websites.
"It is shameful that after all these decades, in a Europe that has had a very difficult history of xenophobia, we are still seeing that the money of the European Union and various European capitals is being used to finance a xenophobic campaign. Therefore, I appeal to the donors who are funding this organization to reveal themselves. To name who they are, who are funding this organization, so that the Georgian people know who the xenophobic donors are in Georgia. We will, of course, also find and name the xenophobic donors who, in the 21st century, do not hesitate to use xenophobia as a weapon to carry out economic sabotage against Georgia. This is a shame and a black day for European donors. It is time to expose another big scam and lie that donors in Georgia are spreading, that there is a certain group of online media. This is not online media, these are actually ordinary NGOs with websites. There is no journalism in their activities and this is not any media activity. These are ordinary NGOs with websites. If you look at their informational topics, they are completely concentrated on, including advertising, announcing, and describing the results of violent actions. They are an absolute propaganda mouthpiece for violent groups. And also a propaganda mouthpiece for a xenophobic campaign and a mouthpiece for economic sabotage against Georgia. So, this is not any media, in its essence. These are NGOs with websites. There are no journalistic standards or ethics in them,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
In addition, as Papuashvili noted, NGOs were used for the economic sabotage of the “Namahvani HPP” project as well.
According to Papuashvili, they will expose and identify all financiers who harm the country and its people and promote economic sabotage.
"Today, we can openly say that even then, those who carried out this sabotage were financed from abroad. At that time, from American and European funds. Today, the new US administration has acknowledged the crimes of the previous administration in that funds were used to harm other countries and peoples. Such projects are no longer funded. We hope, at least and as far as we know, this is the case. And today, this sabotage is entirely financed either directly from the EU budget or from the budget of an EU member state. Therefore, the financing of all these organizations is still hidden. I call on their donors to name themselves, who is financing Publica, Netgazeti, On.ge and other such website-based NGOs and who is financing economic sabotage against Georgia. We promise, of course, we will identify who the financiers are and we will expose anyone, no matter which ambassador, no matter which country or organization, who harms our people and promotes economic sabotage," Shalva Papuashvili said.
