Private schools will be able to maintain a 12-year curriculum, and as for public schools, here too, if someone wishes to complete the twelfth grade in order to continue their studies abroad, special classes will be created in different cities, including Tbilisi. We want to create appropriate special classes in each district, - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated at the plenary session of the Parliament, where he is being heard by interpellation.
According to him, the statements regarding the creation of artificial obstacles for children are speculation, since everyone who wants to continue their studies abroad from the first year will have appropriate support.
"As for the main advantages associated with the transition from 12 years to an 11-year education model. First of all, when we started discussing this, I asked education specialists, representatives of the Ministry of Education, whether it is possible to achieve the goals set out in the National Curriculum in 11 years, and I did not receive a negative answer. In fact, it was confirmed that it is possible to achieve the goals set out in the National Curriculum in 11 years. After that, a simple question was asked - if this is possible, why should a student study for 12 years? Reducing the duration has many advantages. An additional 30-40 thousand people are added to the workforce, which is naturally very important for the economy. Also, we know what the existing problem is - in fact, not only in the twelfth grade, but even in the eleventh grade, students do not go to school at all. The program of the last grades is not at all compatible with the content of the entrance exams, therefore, students prefer, instead of going to school, to have a tutor or learn at home and pass the entrance exam. Of course, this should be changed, the content of the general education program should be revised, and the final year program should be maximally adjusted to the requirements of the entrance exams, and we will definitely do this. In addition, if it is not necessary to study for 12 years to achieve the goals, it is better to switch to 11 years. The only thing that opponents opposed this message was that under the conditions of 11-year education, students would have difficulty continuing their studies in the higher education system abroad. When a child goes to study abroad from the first year, the majority of them never return to the country, so going abroad is more of a disadvantage than a plus. If someone wants to continue their studies abroad, appropriate conditions will be created here too. First, this requirement will not apply to private schools, and private schools will be able to maintain the 12-year curriculum, and second, as for public schools, here too, if someone wants to complete the twelfth grade in order to continue their studies abroad, for this special classes will be created in different cities, including Tbilisi. We want to create appropriate special classes in each district. Therefore, if someone wishes to graduate from the twelfth grade and continue their studies abroad from the first year, all conditions will be created for this. Therefore, the statements regarding the creation of artificial obstacles for children are completely speculative,” Kobakhidze said.
