Irakli Kobakhidze: An insufficiently educated society is easily manipulated - it is easy to sow hatred and spread ideologies such as Bolshevism, Fascism, and today’s modern liberal fascism

“An insufficiently educated society is easily subjected to manipulation and external interference. In such a society, it is easy to sow hatred and to spread ideologies such as Bolshevism, Fascism, and what we see today - modern liberal fascism,” - said the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, during the government meeting.

According to the Prime Minister, this reform is of strategic importance from every standpoint, including for strengthening national security.

“Today we are approving the concept of higher education reform. The goal of this reform is to ensure that Georgian students receive university education in Georgia that meets the highest standards. We all clearly understand the importance of education and an educated society. The most dangerous thing for a country is a society that is insufficiently or poorly educated. Therefore, we must give special importance to educational reform.

An insufficiently educated society is easily manipulated, easily subjected to external interference, and in such a society it is easy to sow hatred. It is easy to spread ideologies such as Bolshevism, Fascism, and what we see today - modern liberal fascism. Therefore, this reform is of particular importance from every perspective, including for strengthening national security.

It was well understood by those forces that deliberately weakened the education system for nine years that national security is directly linked to education. An educated society in our country is best able to defend the national interests, independence, and security of its state. Our country's ill-wishers knew this, and therefore, between 2004 and 2012 they devoted special effort to weakening and dismantling both higher and general education. What was damaged in the 1990s and later in 2004–2012 must be corrected now, and this is the key objective of the higher education concept.”

According to Kobakhidze, the concept includes all necessary directions of reform: institutional optimization, improvement of personnel policy, development of study programs and textbooks that correspond to modern standards, integration of teaching and research, harmonization of higher education priorities with the labor market needs, and improvement of the funding system.

He also stated that starting today, the Ministry of Infrastructure will begin preparing a development concept for necessary university infrastructure:

“This will be a modern infrastructure developed between Tbilisi and Rustavi, and also in Kutaisi. It will include modern working spaces, auditoriums, scientific laboratories, libraries, cultural and sports infrastructure, and student dormitories. We must create two small paradises for our future students.”

Kobakhidze added that tomorrow the Minister of Education will present the concept of general education.

“Educational reform must be comprehensive in its content, and along with university reform, the reform to be implemented in the general education sector will be extremely important. The Minister of Education will share detailed information with the public tomorrow,” he concluded.
