If anything further deepens the doubt in the minds of any Georgian citizen that these [BBC] allegations are fair and based on the truth, it is the reaction of the Ivanishvili regime, Giga Bokeria, chairman of the Federalist Party, said in response to a BBC journalistic investigation.
According to him, any adequate government would have invited an examination team from international institutions to dispel doubts and establish the truth.
"Any more or less adequate government would have taken the only step - to invite an examination group from international institutions that would neutralize this accusation. Instead, we see a typical Putinist, Ivanishvili-style regime flood.
Yesterday we saw a classic mistake. They used a former official, brought him out and simply made him mention the previous government, as if it bought the substance, and they didn't realize that by doing so, they practically confirmed one part of the accusation that was made in this investigation, that they had such a substance that was harmful to health. Now they have understood this and are trying to correct it," Bokeria said.
He also noted that the statements of the former and new Interior Ministers demonstrate why the majority of citizens, believe today that this grave accusation is based on the truth.
"We do not exclude that the regime and its entourage hope that time will pass and it will be difficult to prove this, but we must remind everyone that all evidence of the cover-up of this case will already be assessed as a crime by an independent judiciary when this regime is no longer in power. The further they go in shameful repressions, the deeper the belief in the majority of society that this crime was committed," Bokeria said, whose comments were disseminated by the Federalist Party.
For information, the BBC prepared and published investigative material, according to which the substance Camite, the last use of which was during World War I, was used to quell protests in November-December 2024.
After the publication of the BBC journalistic investigation, the State Security Service launched an investigation under two articles: - Exceeding official authority and assisting a foreign organization in hostile activities.
