Salome Zurabishvili: All the reactions we have heard from the regime’s leaders and the SSS investigation are incoherent - foreign organizations must join the investigation so we can know exactly what chemical substance was used

“All the reactions we have heard from the regime’s leaders, even from the SSS investigation, are incoherent,” Georgia’s fifth President, Salome Zurabishvili, said at the protest rally titled “The regime is poisoning us, an international investigation must be conducted.”

According to Zurabishvili, the questions that existed earlier still remain unanswered, and to this day it is unknown what substance was used during the dispersal of the 2024 protest rallies. She added that statements made by the leaders of “Georgian Dream” and the SSS investigation do not provide convincing answers.

“In general, every reaction we have heard from the regime’s leaders or even from the SSS investigation is incoherent. They don’t know what to say, at what moment, or how to say it. One says one thing, another says something else. It is obvious that they have not sorted this out yet. Meanwhile, public reaction is growing, reaction abroad is growing, and I would say that ‘Georgian Dream’ is becoming increasingly confused.

The questions that existed before still exist now. It is essential that a real investigation be carried out - which, unfortunately, cannot be conducted in this country - and foreign organizations must join the investigation so we can know exactly what chemical substance was used. We still do not know, and none of their answers provide any convincing explanation,” Salome Zurabishvili stated.
