“ALDE is naturally part of the so-called ‘global war party,’ just like the BBC. They were forced to distance themselves from Elisashvili’s actions. I can’t say they were ashamed, because shame has nothing to do with them,” said Guram Macharashvili, an MP from People’s Power, while commenting on ALDE’s statement.
According to him, ALDE frequently issues insulting statements about Georgia.
“ALDE is naturally part of the ‘global war party,’ just like the BBC, which is why they so casually and directly publish insulting statements or letters regarding Georgia. But when it comes to Elisashvili, based on the publicly acknowledged evidence, they were compelled to say that they are distancing themselves from this act. I cannot say they were ashamed — shame has nothing to do with them. The point is that there is publicly acknowledged evidence, and most importantly, Elisashvili himself has admitted everything. They distanced themselves from that, but then added that they also condemn the so-called radical dispersal of protests — which of course never happened. They also said they condemn the use of chemical weapons, even though these same people admit that no one has examined anything and they don’t even know whether any chemical agent was present,” Macharashvili stated.
For reference, the “Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe” (ALDE Party) wrote on the X platform that it does not justify the actions of Aleko Elisashvili, a member of “Lelo – New Georgia.”
“Of course, ALDE does not condone these actions — this is self-evident. Just as we will never justify violence against peaceful demonstrators or the use of chemical weapons against citizens,” ALDE wrote on X.
As a reminder, a few days ago Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated regarding Elisashvili’s case that ALDE had shown “no reaction.”
