“Kobakhidze has found his place in Ashgabat, but the Georgian people do not choose Ashgabat. Instead of integrating into the world’s most peaceful political union, this regime is talking about ‘peace’ alongside dictators, terrorists, and sponsors of terrorism - those who are, above all, enemies of peace and who destroy it. Peace is not and has never been the goal of this anti-Georgian regime,” said Grigol Gegelia, Secretary General of Lelo – Strong Georgia, commenting on Irakli Kobakhidze’s participation in a forum held in Turkmenistan.
According to him, Kobakhidze has halted Georgia’s path toward the European Union and instead is “attending a so-called peace conference together with autocrats.”
“Kobakhidze has stopped the movement toward the European Union - the longest-lasting project of peace and prosperity in world history - and instead attends a so-called peace conference alongside the leaders of Russia, Iran, and Pakistan and other autocrats, among whom stands the greatest enemy of peace, the Georgia-hating occupier Putin. After attending Hezbollah funerals, Kobakhidze has finally found his place at the Ashgabat conference, and according to Dream’s spokespeople, this is supposedly where Georgia’s future lies.
But this is only Kobakhidze’s place, not the place of the Georgian nation. This is Kobakhidze’s future, not the future of the Christian, European, free Georgian people, who centuries ago chose Greco-Roman civilization over this authoritarian twilight, sought a full place in the family of European nations, and aspired to membership in a rules-based, lawful, peaceful political space founded on Christian values, prosperity, and the rule of law.
The core problem is precisely that Kobakhidze is trying to replace the axis of European and Atlantic integration with the axis of Ashgabat’s values, offering this format as an alternative to what he himself is destroying - a secure and protected European future.
Kobakhidze’s foreign policy is an unnatural antibody. It is as incompatible with anything Georgian as this predatory regime is incompatible with the challenges and priorities of a poor Georgian nation.
At the same time, today the true nature of the Dream regime’s so-called peace has been fully exposed. Anyone who wants to understand what ‘Georgian Dream’ means by peace now needs even less reflection - for ‘Dream,’ peace means pro-Russian autocracy, neutrality within Russia’s orbit, and alliance with various dark dictatorships.
The fact is clear: instead of integrating into the world’s most peaceful political union, this regime is speaking about ‘peace’ alongside dictators, terrorists, and sponsors of terrorism - those who are the first to oppose and destroy peace. Peace is not and has never been the goal of this anti-Georgian regime,” Gegelia stated.
