Shalva Papuashvili on BBC - Lawyers are working, we are preparing this lawsuit - the appeal needs to be prepared, including, presumably, by the use of local, British legal aid

According to the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, the Georgian Dream party is likely to use British legal aid to prepare a lawsuit against the BBC.

As he told journalists, lawyers are already working on preparing this lawsuit.

“You know that lawyers are working on this lawsuit. You know that there is a possibility of appealing to the regulatory commission. We will use all legal mechanisms to expose the BBC’s falsification

It is already proven, given these circumstances, and the Trump case is precisely proof of this, that this was a hybrid operation against Georgia, in which the BBC participated as a propaganda tool. Lawyers are working, we are preparing this lawsuit. Of course, the appeal needs to be prepared. This will most likely include the use of local, British legal aid, since representation is also important. We are working legally in this direction,” Papuashvili said.

As for the creation of an investigative commission regarding the BBC’s journalistic investigation, Shalva Papuashvili said that “nasty disinformation against Georgia should not be given a platform.”

“We should not give a platform to hateful disinformation against Georgia, this is important. It has been proven that this was hateful disinformation against Georgia. After the hybrid operation against Georgia and the Georgian people failed, now they are trying to put this topic on “artificial respiration”. Of course, we will not give anyone the opportunity to have a parliamentary platform for this hateful disinformation,” Papuashvili said.

For information, the BBC prepared and published investigative material, according to which, in November-December 2024, the substance “camite” was used to quell protests, the last use of which was during World War I. The story prepared by the BBC discussed the impact of the substance used and the results of doctors’ research on it.
