Prime Minister: Our desire is to restore partnership with the United States from a clean slate; we are patiently waiting - if there is a positive decision and goodwill on their part, nothing will stand in the way of restoring the strategic partnership

“Our desire is to restore partnership with the United States from a clean slate. Here too, we are waiting for the U.S. position. We are patiently waiting for all of this. If there is a positive decision and goodwill on their part, naturally, nothing will stand in the way of restoring the strategic partnership,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on the air of the Public Broadcaster.

According to the Prime Minister, the key issue is for the country to continue pursuing the pragmatic policy it has chosen.

“The most important thing is that we continue the pragmatic policy we have chosen. As for our relations with the United States, our desire and goal are absolutely clear here as well. Our wish is to restore partnership with the U.S. from a clean slate. We are waiting for the U.S. position and are patiently awaiting developments. If there is a positive decision and goodwill on their part, naturally, nothing will prevent the restoration of the strategic partnership,” the Prime Minister stated.

In addition, Kobakhidze spoke about U.S.–EU relations, saying that a struggle is clearly visible in the United States between the Trump administration and the so-called “deep state,” which still retains influence over the country.

According to him, if the informal forces ultimately prevail in the struggle between the Trump administration and these forces, the EU’s process of decline will become irreversible; however, if the Trump administration prevails, the EU will have a greater chance to strengthen its positions.

“The main issue here is not U.S.–EU relations; the main issue is what interests the informal forces. We have said this many times, and it is once again confirmed by records in U.S. documents. We have repeatedly stated that among the world’s major actors, the main victim of this war - including recent wars - was, of course, the European Union. Naturally, Ukraine suffered the greatest damage, followed by the Russian Federation, but among the major global players, the primary victim of this war was the EU. First and foremost, this concerns the economy - the severe economic damage suffered by the EU. This damage began in 2008, when the gradual separation between the EU and Russia started. As a result, the EU gradually lost access to the Russian market, which had been important for the development of the EU and the European economy as a whole, and, more importantly, EU countries lost access to cheap Russian natural resources.

In our view, this was the main objective of the war that ultimately began first in Georgia in 2008 and later involved two wars in Ukraine. The main victim was Europe and the European Union. The results are evident - the economy has fallen from 30% to 17.5%, identity has been lost, and there are serious problems in industry and various sectors of the economy. The EU is the main victim. What we read in the document that was published can be perceived as a sign that someone intends to see this process through to the end - what is referred to as the final weakening of the European Union. We will see how events develop. In the United States, a struggle is clearly visible between the Trump administration and the so-called ‘deep state,’ that is, informal forces that still exert influence over the U.S. and have substantial, decisive influence over the EU. The decisive factor will be how this struggle ends. If the informal forces ultimately prevail, the EU’s decline will be irreversible. If the Trump administration prevails, the EU will have a greater chance to strengthen its position. We must observe these processes,” the Prime Minister said.
