Brussels presents the visa as a curse, as if obtaining a visa should be a curse - are we so cursed by Britain, Ireland, the United States, or what is happening?! - the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, told journalists.
According to him, the attitude, when visa-free travel is considered a gift and a visa is a curse, shows what the European Union thinks of itself.
Papuashvili says that the European Union's attitude seems to be "so bureaucratic, corrupt, and slow that if we need a visa, they will harass us, torture us, put us in the cold, turn us into beggars to get a visa."
"To be honest, what we hear about the suspension of visa-free travel is a bit frivolous. The main threat is about the suspension of visa-free travel for diplomatic passports. We know that this decision was made a long time ago and it has already been suspended. Visas are issued to those who have diplomatic passports. When I was visiting Bulgaria, I received a visa. Just as I received a visa when I went to visit Britain, I also received a visa when I went to Ireland. The whole problem is that Brussels presents the visa as a curse, as if obtaining a visa should be a curse. Are we so cursed by Britain, Ireland, the United States, or what is happening?! Is there a need for a visa?! - We will obtain a visa. Anyone who needs to go to any country, anyone who has a reason for it, has never had a problem obtaining a visa. Visas for diplomatic passports have been introduced for a long time. This attitude, blackmail, does not influence the Georgian people. This attitude itself shows that when you consider visa-free travel as a gift and a visa as a curse, it shows, first of all, what idea the European Union has of itself" - said Papuashvili.
In addition, the Chairman of the Parliament noted that the European Commission's report shows the hypocrisy of Brussels.
"As for the European Commission report, this also shows the absolute hypocrisy of Brussels. The report, which concerns all countries where there is visa-free travel, talks about corruption and human rights issues everywhere. There are chapters on all countries, and for some reason they were removed from Ukraine and Moldova. That is, these chapters were removed from the two countries where this problem is particularly visible. Everyone knows very well where these two countries stand in terms of corruption. As for human rights, in both countries they closed down television stations that they did not like. Anyone you label as pro-Russian, you can even shoot them. This is what pro-Europeanism means today, that if you want to get rid of someone, call them "Russian" and then kill that person if you want. This is the European value today," Papuashvili said.
