The State Security Service is starting to study the issue related to food prices. The relevant statement was made by the First Deputy Head of the State Security Service, Lasha Maghradze.
According to him, strict legal response will follow any illegal action that harms the interests of Georgian citizens and the economic security of the country.
“The State Security Service is starting, within the scope of its competence, a detailed study of the issue and a corresponding strict legal response will follow any illegal action that harms the interests of Georgian citizens and the economic security of our country,” he added.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze called on law enforcement agencies to investigate the issue of food prices and establish whether there are signs of a crime.
Irakli Kobakhidze says the difference between Georgian and European prices for food products is "really big" - "the difference is due to the high markup of distribution companies and markets, which averages 86% from the border to the counter."
