The Gakharia for Georgia party will get involved in the work of the special commission that the parliament plans to create to study the issue of food prices, - one of the leaders of the Gakharia for Georgia party, Levan Gogichaishvili, stated on Palitrannews.
According to him, the issue of food prices is important, but he calls the investigation launched by the State Security Service into the issue “ridiculous”.
"We will work in this commission. How are prices determined for food, fuel, and loans, what is the rate, or who is the importer of electricity in this country, or who imports gas or wheat, or even how is the price of bread determined, how much is the VAT, where do they buy the product, which is then imported into Georgia, how much do they pay there, and then how much does the import cost - these are questions that we will ask during the work of the commission. We will not allow the government to allow one network market to use the government and the State Consumer Protection Agency to sink another network market. The public has no trust in the State Consumer Protection Agency, unfortunately, the agency has become a repressive weapon. Prices have increased to the point of madness. For example, the price of electricity is increasing from next year, and why shouldn't there be a minimum wage in the country at the same time? We have submitted a draft law on this issue, and the parliament can discuss and vote on it.
They say that the budget is increasing, why can't pensioners' pensions be increased by 200 GEL, or even 100 GEL, at the expense of this increased budget? Despite the fact that pensions are naturally increasing, because it is tied to inflation, why shouldn't we go further and increase pensions by 100 or 200 GEL? This requires several billions, which the budget can afford," said Levan Gogichaishvili.
According to him, the processes announced regarding food prices should not remain just "an attempt to influence businessmen."
As for other issues, the politician also assessed the detention of the former head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili, on the fact of taking a bribe. According to him, an objective investigation should be conducted on the above issues, which will establish where the money stolen by high-ranking officials went.
“If the public agrees that there is no fair justice and court in this country, perhaps there is no fair system for them [the accused former high-ranking officials] either. But it is cynical that Ivanishvili replaced Liluashvili with a former representative of the National Movement and now the people who are administering justice to Grigol Liluashvili are prosecutors well-trained by Adeishvili”, he said.
