This was the most vile attack on the Georgian state, carried out in Europe with the assistance of Georgian radicals, said Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, in response to questions regarding a BBC investigative report.
Papuashvili described the report as “abominable propaganda.”
“The only thing we can assume is that this is the last straw that radical opposition is clinging to in order to implement the plan of their European backers. To answer this question, we must understand what this case has shown us - this is absolutely vile propaganda. We saw that it was directly orchestrated: the BBC played its role, the European Parliament played its role, various European politicians played their role, and Georgian radicals played their role. This was an entirely orchestrated attack on the Georgian state, carried out through the BBC, the European Parliament, Georgian radicals, and their media,” Papuashvili said.
According to him, the investigation into this matter was completely transparent, and all questions were answered in detail.
“Most importantly, we said: are there any further questions regarding this? We are ready to show all this material to any relevant international institution. If there are any questions, why haven’t these institutions come? This was a scenario staged from outside. That is why, a year later, they started asking, ‘Who did we poison, who had a headache or high blood pressure that day?’ Why did all this start? It was cooked abroad. They were given the assignment to stir up a story now,” Papuashvili added.
For context, the BBC published an investigative report alleging that during November–December 2024 protests, the substance “Camite” - last used during World War I - was allegedly used to disperse demonstrators.
