“Alilo” procession is underway in Tbilisi

On the occasion of the Christmas holiday, the traditional “Alilo” procession is taking place in Tbilisi. A group of pilgrims and choirs began the procession from First Republic Square.

The procession will conclude at the Holy Trinity (Sameba) Cathedral, where a Christmas prayer service will be held.

Before the start of the procession, the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, members of parliament, as well as the wife of Mikheil Kavelashvili, Tamar Bagrationi, arrived at Republic Square and distributed food supplies to the participants of the “Alilo” procession.

“I congratulate my beautiful Georgia on the Christmas holiday. I wish my people health, strength, and prosperity. I believe that love will save us!” said Tamar Bagrationi.

The tradition of the “Alilo” procession was revived in 2000 with the blessing of the Patriarch.
