“It is personally very regrettable for me what happened,” - this is how Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze reacted to the arrest of former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
Kobakhidze stated that he cannot say more on the matter because it is “a matter of justice.”
“The only thing I can say is that it is personally very regrettable for me. I cannot make any further comments on this issue. All of this is a matter for the justice system. Personally, it is regrettable for us what happened,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
For reference, the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office has reached a plea agreement with former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili - he was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Garibashvili was also fined 1 million GEL as an additional penalty, and the funds obtained through criminal activity, as well as money seized during the search of his residence, will be confiscated.
