“If such an international dispute is to exist, it must be based on an international investigation that determines what we were poisoned with in December 2025, not on the spectacle the State Security Service staged over five days to conceal the truth,” said Giorgi Sioridze, one of the leaders of Lelo - Strong Georgia, commenting on Georgian Dream’s decision to file an official complaint against the BBC.
According to Sioridze, “the chemical poisoning case has completely collapsed Georgian Dream’s propaganda.”
“The chemical poisoning case has entirely dismantled Georgian Dream’s propaganda. They announced a major international dispute against the BBC. For all this time, we have not seen any real attempt. And now, it turns out they have filed a complaint against the BBC with some body equivalent to a communications commission. If such an international dispute truly exists, it must rely on an international investigation that establishes what we were poisoned with in December 2025, not on the spectacle the State Security Service staged for five days to hide the truth,” Sioridze said.
For reference, Georgian Dream has filed an official complaint with the BBC. The relevant announcement was made by the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.
According to him, the ruling team is demanding an apology from the BBC and the retraction of the materials.
Papuashvili also explained that the complaint is fully based on the BBC’s editorial principles, the UK communications regulator’s Broadcasting Code, as well as the case law of the European Court of Human Rights, which clearly establishes that when disseminating serious allegations, journalists are obliged to meet the highest standards of accuracy, verification, and fairness.
He added that if the BBC does not correct the violation on its own, the next step will be to apply to the UK communications regulator (Ofcom), and if the violation is not remedied there either, they will then apply to a court in the United Kingdom.
