“Trump has created a Peace Council and invited almost all countries in the region except Georgia. Azerbaijan has stated that transit will not pass through Georgia. The Ivanishvili government deliberately removed Georgia from geopolitical processes,” said international relations specialist Giorgi Tumasiani on PalitraNews’ program "Resume".
According to Tumasiani, Georgia is now left without allies.
“Where are we today? Trump has created a Peace Council and invited almost all countries in the region except Georgia. Azerbaijan has announced that [transit] will not pass through Georgia. Armenia also wants to open its border with Azerbaijan. Where is Georgia? On which platform, in which discussion, whose ally are we at all? Azerbaijan has Turkey as an ally, Armenia is actively developing relations with the U.S., the EU, and India.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have become important nodes for transit in Central Asia. Where is Georgia? What function do we have on the geopolitical map? The Ivanishvili government deliberately distanced Georgia from geopolitical processes, but not in a way that minimizes risks. The reality is that today Georgia is left without allies,” Tumasiani said.
Tumasiani added that Azerbaijani President Aliyev’s statement that “one day transit from Armenia to Russia will go through Azerbaijan instead of Georgia” stems from the fact that Georgia, under Russian influence, is not trusted by anyone.
“The policies of the ‘Georgian Dream’ have caused unprecedented damage to Georgia’s reputation, international credibility, and trust in logistical connections and partnership formats that have existed for a long time.
The reason is that when we claim that the ruling party has become a force promoting Russian interests, many citizens perceive it merely as an internal political struggle, which is not true. This is a significant factor with foreign policy implications. Specifically, Georgia under Russian influence will not be reliable for important transit corridors and routes,” Giorgi Tumasiani said.
