We are obliged to return to the Georgian people the right to debate, one of the fundamental principles of democracy, and not allow informal forces and their “Georgian” agents to impose their own agenda on us. We must return public discussion to public life, which is vital for the functioning of a full democracy, - Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze writes on social networks.
As the Prime Minister notes, in order for the Georgian people to make any choice in the future as a result of the correct analysis, they must have the opportunity to publicly hear the positions of all political groups that have the ambition to be in power.
“Debate, or discussion about the truth, is one of the main pillars of democracy. Debate allows society to hear and analyze the views of people with different opinions and make a choice in favor of the side whose opinion it considers more correct. It is with this pillar that the foundations of a truly democratic state, the rule of the people, were created.
Debate has had various forms over the centuries, starting with “debating squares” held at public gatherings and ending with television debates, and its goal has always been the same - the majority of society should choose and decide on a position that is closer to its values, views and needs.
Since the culture of debate is one of the distinctive parts of European civilization, this unalternative pillar of democracy was developed most, and at the highest level, precisely on the European continent, in European countries. Debates were held in all spheres of public life and on all topics, be it politics, business, environmental protection, culture, sports, etc. In this way, the population was maximally informed about any challenge or achievement, which ultimately allowed people to make the right choice.
Unfortunately, on the European continent after 2008, the situation gradually changed for the worse, which is directly related to the growth of the influence of the so-called “deep state”, that is, informal oligarchic rule on European politics. After the process of dramatic weakening of the sovereignty of the European Union and individual European states and the rapid decline of European democracy began, after agents’ rule and pseudo-liberal values became deeply rooted in Europe, informal rulers themselves created artificial problems, such as LGBT and gender identity issues, “green politics” and others, and themselves offered the public ways to solve these artificial problems. In this process, they deprived the people of the opportunity to choose, diverted attention from real problems to invented, absurd issues, and as a result, we have completely lost one of the most important and necessary pillars of democracy, healthy debates, from European politics.
Informal rulers use the so-called soft method, ideological and informational pressure on people's consciousness, instead of weapons, to subjugate European countries, and healthy debates, public criticism and analysis of the situation directly contradict this goal. Therefore, a considerable amount of time, resources and energy has been spent on solving this "problem". Especially since 2020, well-known, rated and popular debates have been closed one after another in leading European mass media, accordingly, the opportunity for discussion and listening to different opinions has disappeared from public life.
In order to destroy European democracy, informal rulers have successfully suppressed dissent and closed the most important platforms where this dissent could be expressed and brought to the public.
Unfortunately, the plan of informal oligarchic rule to suppress dissent, destroy any space for debate and limit as much as possible any public platform that exposes their ideology, has partially affected Georgia. However, the “deep state” agents have only managed to do one thing, to interrupt the long-standing culture of political, economic and social debates in the country. The main standard-bearer for this task was Nika Gvaramia. When his patrons realized that during the debate, the public could easily distinguish truth from lies, they introduced a completely foreign body to the media, Gvaramia, and gave him a specific task - to completely radicalize.
Gvaramia successfully completed the task - he established lies, insults, swearing, slander and hysteria as the media standard, and ultimately created such a toxic media environment that a normal, healthy person no longer wants to participate in a debate, which ultimately ends in insults. In turn, this situation has divided society and deprived it of the right to enjoy the main principle of democracy - to hear different positions and make a choice according to its own views. Today, we see, on the one hand, a completely marginalized, party unit that has nothing to do with journalism, and, on the other hand, the media, which, due to the current situation, is forced, in parallel with the performance of its own function, to constantly respond to the torrent of disinformation coming from the other side.
And since it is easy to explain the goals, performers and tasks of the artificially created, opposing and divided environment - we are obliged to correct this unhealthy situation; "We are obliged to return to the Georgian people the right to debate, one of the fundamental principles of democracy, and not allow informal forces and their "Georgian" agents to impose their own agenda on us. In order for the Georgian people to make any choice in the future as a result of correct analysis, we must give them the opportunity to publicly hear the positions of all political groups that have the ambition to be in power. We must return public discussion to public life, which is vital for the functioning of a full democracy," the Prime Minister writes.
