We are ready to beat the farcical speakers of the Georgian Dream, - said Grigol Gegelia, one of the leaders of the Lelo-Strong Georgia, responding to a letter published on social networks by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, in which the Prime Minister notes that public discussion needs to return to public life.
According to Gegelia, the Georgian Dream does not have answers to any critical issues facing society, which is why it has been avoiding public debates for years.
Gegelia noted that in such conditions, when a number of political opponents are imprisoned, pressure is being exerted on political parties and there is even talk of their abolition, talking about the importance of debates in such conditions is "comical and laughable".
“This government has been hiding from all forms of democratic formats for 6 years, because they have nothing to say on any critical issue that is so acute in the life of our society. So the proposal they have made regarding debates is very comical, given that they have been avoiding debates for 6 years, have imprisoned numerous political opponents, are fighting parties and are planning to abolish them. In such a situation, talking about the benefits of debate is comical and laughable. A government that wants debates would not do this.
However, at the same time, it should be noted that on economic and social issues, foreign policy and basic issues, of course, we are always ready for debate and we are ready to beat the farcical speakers of the Georgian Dream. That is why the representatives of the Georgian Dream themselves have been hiding for 6 years,” Gegelia said.
In addition, Gegelia spoke about the coordination of opposition parties and noted that Lelo-Strong Georgia is open to coordination, but party unification is not on the agenda.
According to him, Lelo-Strong Georgia has repeatedly come up with the initiative to create a common people’s parliament, a common political agenda, and participate in the elections in a coalition format.
“We, Lelo-Strong Georgia have always been and are ready for coordination, we have repeatedly expressed our desire to create a common people’s parliament, including creating a common political agenda and fighting together in the elections. We have always been open to coordination and a coalition format and continue to maintain our openness. As for party unification, this is not an interesting political idea for us and something we would discuss in any form," said Gegelia.
