"Agreement", "signing declarations" - I don't believe in such things, - one of the leaders of the National Movement Petre Tsiskarishvili told journalists when he spoke about the unity of the opposition.
According to Petre Tsiskarishvili, opposition unity can be considered a unity in which voters have confidence and place their hopes.
"Opposition unity, whatever it is called, can only be considered a political unity about which voters will say that if we remove Bidzina Ivanishvili from this government, this specific political team should come to power, in which we have credibility, we have hopes, the leadership is clearly defined, they will take responsibility for the country's security, future, education, economy, etc. This is unity, a consolidated political group that represents an alternative to the current government. The rest, coordination, sitting around a common table, talking, then promoting it and after a while everyone will forget about it again, agreements, signing declarations - I do not believe in such things. I believe in a unified team with a unified structure, the embodiment of a specific alternative in the eyes of voters. If people say, “this is an alternative to this government, this political team”, whether it has a name or is competing under the name of some coalition, then there is real, genuine unity," Tsiskarishvili said.
Tsiskarishvili also spoke about the release of opposition politician Givi Targamadze from prison and said that the main task in the country is "change of the regime," because "political prisoners" still remain in prison.
"We are very happy and the freedom of our friend, comrade-in-arms, Givi Targamadze has brought us a positive mood, but the overall atmosphere in the country is tense, the mood is tense due to the fact that many political prisoners still remain in prison. Young boys are being held in Rustavi Prison and Gldani Prison, and there is no prospect of their release under this regime. Therefore, the main thing and our task remains to change the regime so that these innocent people can gain freedom," said Petre Tsiskarishvili.
