These are not congressmen, they are congressional administration employees, advisors to various congressmen, this is a so-called staff visit, a visit by advisors - there will be fewer meetings of a political nature, - the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili said regarding the visit of the US Congressional staff delegation to Georgia.
According to Papuashvili, the congressmen whose advisors have arrived in Georgia are probably interested in an assessment of the current situation in Georgia from a first-hand source, and not from Laura Thorton and Eka Gigauri, who are distinguished by their hostile rhetoric towards Georgia.
"They have various meetings, including meetings in the parliament. We are always ready to talk about issues of interest to them. It is clear that these meetings will be less political, since they are advisors, therefore, they will then bring the matter to their congressmen, whose advisors they are - perhaps it is interesting for them to hear from the first-hand sources what is really happening in Georgia and not from Laura Thorton and Eka Gigauri, who are distinguished by their hostile rhetoric towards Georgia," Papuashvili said.
According to the US Embassy in Georgia, Congressional staff will meet with Georgian officials and opposition leaders during their visit to Georgia.
They will also visit the IDP settlement in Tserovani to learn about the situation in Georgia.
“We are pleased to host the Congressional staff delegation in Georgia! As part of their regional visit, members of the delegation will meet with Georgian officials and opposition leaders. They will also visit the IDP settlement in Tserovani to learn about the current situation in Georgia,” reads the information.
