The activation of the “Moscow Mechanism” by the OSCE is the first international tribunal against Ivanishvili - all this will have a very serious impact on Georgia's reputation and the economic stability of each citizen, - this is how Grigol Gegelia, Foreign Secretary of Lelo-Strong Georgia, assesses the fact that 24 OSCE member states are creating an expert mission due to the deterioration of the human rights situation in Georgia.
According to him, the measures taken by the international community against the regime are becoming increasingly strict.
"The activation of the "Moscow Mechanism" by the OSCE is the first international tribunal against Ivanishvili. It is an exceptional measure, not an ordinary step.
This mechanism is used in exceptional cases, when there are mass, systematic violations of human rights and the rule of law.
For example, the “Moscow Mechanism” was actively used to investigate the appalling human rights situation in the Balkans in the 1990s.
Accordingly, today Georgia is being examined by the same mechanism that was used to investigate some of the most serious cases in recent European history.
This does not require the consent of the government, the mission will be held in any case, regardless of the position of the Dream criminal syndicate.
This shows that this regime is as illegitimate as it has been all along, after the 2024 parliamentary elections. The measures that the international community is taking against the regime are becoming increasingly stringent. The “Vienna Mechanism” initiated last year has failed, the Dream regime has failed to convince the international community, and instead of allaying their concerns, it has only increased.
Delegitimization/distrust - there is no faith in the internal investigation by the international community.
All this has a very serious impact on Georgia's reputation and the economic stability of each citizen. We are no longer part of the European enlargement agenda, we are not invited to any new peace and economic formats, no high-ranking politicians are coming, no long-term solid investment is coming,” Gegelia noted.
For information, 24 OSCE member states are creating an expert mission due to the deteriorating human rights situation in Georgia.
The statement notes that the 24 countries have activated the OSCE’s “Moscow Mechanism” to create an expert mission due to the deteriorating human rights situation in Georgia.
They also call on Georgia to cooperate and facilitate the work of the mission.
