The unification of Tbilisi State University and the Georgian Technical University is a very important initiative that will ensure the optimization of the system as a whole, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
According to the head of government, all this is aimed at improving the quality of education in the country. According to Kobakhidze, there have been no specific statements regarding the possible disadvantages of the unification of universities.
"At one time, we heard serious complaints about the functioning of the education system, including our opponents claiming that, for example, our young people often went abroad because the proper quality of higher education was not provided in Georgia. We announced an education reform and suddenly it turned out that Tbilisi State University is Harvard, Georgian Technical University is Cambridge, and Ilia University is Oxford. Of course, all this campaign that our opponents are conducting is built on lies again and again. All this speaks of their speculative nature. As for the merger of the two universities specifically, you can observe the discussion, there are only general statements and no specific statements regarding what disadvantages this merger may have. Plus, there are many positive sides," the Prime Minister said.
