The number of members of the parliamentary temporary commission established to study the price formation of food products, medicines, and fuel has been set at 14.
The Committee on Procedural Issues determined the number of members of the temporary commission and the quotas for proportional representation.
Out of the 14 members, the Georgian Dream faction will have 7 members, the For Georgia faction will have 3 members, the political group People’s Power will have 3 members, and the political group European Socialists will have 1 member.
The Committee on Procedural Issues will submit its conclusion to the Parliamentary Bureau, which will approve the number of members and the proportional representation quotas of the temporary commission at its upcoming session. Following this, the commission will be formed and will begin its work later this week.
The parliamentary commission will be chaired by Shota Berekashvili, Chair of the Economic Policy Committee.
A commission dealing with issues related to food products, medicines, and fuel prices has also been established within the Government Administration. This commission is chaired by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who has stated that food prices in Georgia are higher compared to Europe due to high markups and profit margins. The State Security Service has also begun studying consumer prices.
