Shalva Papuashvili on Lasha Darsalia’s meeting in the U.S.: It was a working meeting focused on bilateral relations, while political relations remain in a waiting mode

“It was a working meeting focused on bilateral relations; as for political relations between the two states, we remain in a waiting mode,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, commenting on the meeting between Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Brendan Hanhrahan.

He added that the ruling party is ready to “reset” relations between Georgia and the United States.

“Work between the U.S. and Georgian foreign ministries is proceeding normally. This was a working meeting focused on bilateral relations. As for political relations between the two countries, we are still in a waiting mode. What is important is the willingness on our part to reboot relations. Our readiness is to move past the harmful practices carried out by the previous administration against the Georgian people - including through election interference, which was part of the Biden administration’s policy. Of course, we are ready to turn a new page and reset relations between Georgia and the United States,” the Parliament Speaker noted.

For reference, the meeting in Washington included Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Brendan Hanhrahan.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting covered key issues concerning bilateral cooperation.
