Shalva Papuashvili on the “Gakharia for Georgia” party: What Gakharia is, that is the party

“What Gakharia is, that is the party,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili in response to a question from journalists about the participation of the party ‘Gakharia for Georgia’ in debates.

He added that there was initially agreement from their side to participate in debates, but “then a call came from Berlin, and it was canceled - be careful about calls from Berlin and trust calls from Kutaisi, Batumi, or other regions!”

“What Gakharia is, that is the party. At one point, it was said that this person [Giorgi Gakharia] is a ‘bubble,’ and so is his party - empty, just chatter. They chatter on other platforms: ‘Come out, and if you’re men, let’s debate.’ Finally, there was even an offer, and they agreed on their side, but then a call came from Berlin, and it was shut down. Just like in 2024, when we were ready for open debates with those who had been involved in the violent storming of Parliament - we remember how those who expressed willingness to discuss were shut down. So, be careful about calls from Berlin, and trust calls from Kutaisi, Batumi, or other regions!”

According to Papuashvili, the party is named after Gakharia because “they could never establish a proper name for themselves.”
