“The merger of TSU (Tbilisi State University) and STU (State Technical University) is a special measure aimed at saving Kutaisi University, which was founded by Bidzina Ivanishvili,” stated Giga Parulava, a deputy from the party “Gakharia for Georgia”, speaking to journalists about the education reform.
According to him, the accelerated discussion and adoption of the education reform is absurd.
“We are in such a tragic situation that it is neither funny nor sad - the government is pushing the education reform through in an accelerated manner. What could be more absurd than this? It was submitted yesterday, and today it is expected to be approved in an accelerated process. We say: provide the research, on what basis this is happening, who conducted this specific research on which the accelerated adoption of education reform is based. We have not seen these studies… As for the merger of TSU and STU, this is a special measure aimed specifically at saving Kutaisi University, founded by Ivanishvili. This issue has no other connection to the broader education reform,” Parulava said.
