Giga Bokeria - The regime has no legitimacy and the problem must be solved through repression, legitimization by force is dictatorship - as for the "Moscow mechanism", this will not be a turning point, because the group of experts will be declared enemies

There is no such thing as legitimation by force, legitimation by force is dictatorship. They are worried about legitimation because they see a threat, - this is how Gigia Bokeria, the leader of the Federalists party, responds to the statement of Archil Gorduladze, a member of the Georgian Dream, according to which a person who does not recognize the legitimacy of constitutional bodies and publicly calls for such actions may be held criminally liable.

As Bokeria stated on PalitraNews, such legislation indicates a crisis of legitimacy of the government and an attempt to solve the problem through repression.

According to him, legitimacy should come from citizens voluntarily, and obtaining it by force is a sign of dictatorship.

“This law indicates that they have no legitimacy and want to solve the problem through repression. The essence of legitimacy is that citizens must give it to you on their own. There is no legitimacy through force, legitimacy through force is dictatorship. They are worried about legitimacy because they see a threat. In a large part of society, they do not have legitimacy - they see a potential threat in this. I believe that the response of society and political parties to this will be to expand the consensus of society and express peaceful protest.

The regime is trying to maneuver repression, trying not to do it immediately, because they understand so much that if they overdo it, there is a risk and some reaction will follow. Ivanishvili and his entourage have taken the kind of path that there is no other choice but to deepen repression.

Such regimes do not give up power without peaceful protest and its expansion. The fact that after the repressive laws, they needed "focusing on these issues is a sure sign of the moral crisis they are in," Bokeria said.

The leader of the Federalists party also spoke about the activation of the "Moscow Mechanism" relating to Georgia by 24 OSCE member states, within the framework of which an expert mission is being created.

Bokeria believes that the activation of the “Moscow mechanism” is part of international pressure, but the will of Georgian society is decisive.

According to him, it is wrong for society to expect that some international conclusion or decision will itself become a turning point.

“This is one of the components of the legitimate international pressure that is being exerted on this regime. My team and I believe that it is wrong for society to pin its hopes on someone somewhere drawing a conclusion or taking a step and this will be a turning point. This is not so, because such a group of experts will be declared enemies. This will be one of the factors of the international pressure exerted on Ivanishvili’s regime by Georgia’s partners and international institutions. Such pressure will help us, but the main factor is the will of Georgian society. In the future, it will depend on Georgian society how external factors will affect the removal of Ivanishvili’s regime with less damage,” Bokeria stated.

In his opinion, “the street is a necessary component,” because such regimes are only put into the framework when they see that the broad masses of society are ready to protest in large numbers and with intensity.

“The street is a necessary component. You can only put such a regime into the framework when you see that the broad masses of society are ready to protest in large numbers and with intensity,” Bokeria said.
