Shalva Papuashvili: We expect the strategic partnership between Georgia and the U.S. to be fully restored, and that the Trump administration will correct the mistakes of the Biden administration

“We expect that, in addition to working meetings and other forms of engagement, the strategic partnership between Georgia and the United States will be fully restored. This is not our fault; it is the fault of the previous U.S. administration,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, commenting on the meetings of Mikheil Kavtelashvili and Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during events dedicated to the Winter Olympic Games opening.

Papuashvili emphasized that “Georgian Dream” expects “the Trump administration to correct the mistakes committed by the Biden administration.”

“We anticipate that, beyond working meetings and other contacts, the strategic partnership between our countries will be fully restored. The responsibility for the current situation does not lie with us; it lies with the previous U.S. administration, under which relations with the Georgian people and Georgia itself were damaged. Georgia is a country that, under extremely difficult conditions, supported NATO and helped the U.S. protect global security. Georgia ranks first in soldiers lost per capita in Afghanistan. This demonstrates the friendship and partnership we have shown to the United States. Unfortunately, the Biden administration did not appreciate this. Instead of standing by us, we witnessed attempts to undermine the foundations of Georgian democracy. I believe this is another mistake of the Biden administration that it is important for the Trump administration to correct. We hope it will. We are ready and remain in a state of expectation. We see geopolitical shifts happening around the world. Our top priority is to maintain security and peace in the country, while also demonstrating readiness for strategic partnership,” Papuashvili concluded.
