Bakur Kvashilava: "Neutral Georgia" is how "Georgian Dream" speaks to us, and it has long been in debates with the public claiming that the EU is bad - I am convinced the party’s goal is to remove Article 78 from the Constitution

“‘Georgian Dream’ has long been in debates with the overwhelming majority of our country, trying to convince people that the European Union is bad,” said Bakur Kvashilava, Secretary-General of Freedom Square, commenting on the statement by United Neutral Georgia, which calls for debates on EU integration.

According to Kvashilava, United Neutral Georgia is a puppet party of ‘Georgian Dream’, and it is impossible for ‘Georgian Dream’ to seriously debate its own idea.

“United Neutral Georgia is a puppet and satellite party of ‘Georgian Dream,’ directly dependent on it. ‘Neutral Georgia’ is a project of ‘Georgian Dream,’ and it does not represent the interests of any segment of society. From its inception, it has been a second face of ‘Georgian Dream,’ similar to ‘People’s Power.’ Whenever we discuss debates, we must remember that it is ‘Georgian Dream’ speaking to us in the guise of ‘Neutral Georgia,’ just as it does through ‘People’s Power.’ ‘Georgian Dream’ has long been convincing the majority of our country that the European Union is bad. For a very long time, it has been directly opposing Article 78 of the Constitution, which states that our goal should be European integration. It is inconceivable that ‘Georgian Dream’ would seriously debate its own idea. There will be no genuine debate,” Kvashilava said.

He also did not rule out the possibility that the government may remove Article 78 from the Constitution, which states that Georgia’s goal is European integration.

“I am convinced that this is the main goal of ‘Georgian Dream.’ That is why it adopts draconian laws, comparable perhaps only to Turkmenistan or North Korea. The goal is to prevent new forces, intellectuals, and professionals from entering politics, as they are the only ones who can oppose ‘Georgian Dream’ today. The party’s aim is to secure a constitutional majority in the next elections and show 70% of the population that their pro-EU stance was wrong - that the European Union is bad, and that Article 78 must be removed,” Kvashilava said.

He described ‘Georgian Dream’ as a completely unprincipled and morally bankrupt government, whose only goal is illegally making money at the expense of the people.

“‘Georgian Dream’ needs a chair, a seat, and the preservation of power at all costs. It is willing to sell its soul to the devil to maintain its rule. This government has no aim, direction, or ultimate purpose. It is focused solely on one thing - enabling Bidzina Ivanishvili to maintain and expand his wealth, and for his ‘successors’ to achieve personal gain,” Kvashilava said.

He called Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili’s statement - that “Georgia needs the European Union, and the European Union needs Georgia” - a farce.

According to Kvashilava, “in reality, Georgia’s foreign policy today has been reduced to absurdity.”

“This is completely a farce, a government built on lies and run by shameless people,” he said.

He further explained that Georgia is isolated from European partners and even from the U.S. presidential administration.

“The Georgian government is extremely weak on the international stage. It hides in international forums, and during negotiations tries to slip under the table. Why? Because it lacks popular support and has no clear direction for the country. There is a perception that it is moving toward Russia, but in reality, it is going nowhere,” Kvashilava said.

In addition, he commented on the activation of the OSCE’s ‘Moscow Mechanism’ regarding Georgia, describing it as a tool used against governments that are effectively lawless and with whom democratic countries cannot hope to cooperate.

“This mechanism does not consider government cooperation. It reflects the belief that Georgia’s current government is in such conflict with its own people that it has committed a series of offenses against them,” Kvashilava said.
