Protest rally underway at Tbilisi State University

A protest rally is taking place in the courtyard of Tbilisi State University on the occasion of the university’s 108th anniversary, under the slogan “All Roads Lead to the White Temple.”

Participants are protesting the decision to merge Tbilisi State University with the Georgian Technical University and are demanding that the decision be reversed. Protesters are holding banners reading: “The success of civilization depends on intellectual development,” “Better remorse than regret at the end of days,” and “All roads lead to the White Temple.” At this moment, professors and lecturers are addressing the participants.

Georgia’s fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili, has arrived at the rally.

The protesters believe that merging Tbilisi State University with the Georgian Technical University is unacceptable.
