The government will approve student admission quotas for state universities at today’s meeting

The government will approve student admission quotas for state universities at today’s meeting.

As stated by the head of government, Irakli Kobakhidze, at the start of the meeting, for the first time since the restoration of independence, the quotas will be based on labor market analysis, which, according to him, was carried out by the Ministry of Economy in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

According to Kobakhidze, the quotas have been determined in accordance with the concept of higher education, following the principle of “one city - one faculty” established by the concept.

“I would like to emphasize one of the most important outcomes of this reform, which is reflected in the quotas. As a result of this reform, Tbilisi State University will regain its mission and status as the mother university - the status and mission it lost due to developments in the 1990s, and later, between 2004-2012, as a result of the previous government’s deliberate harmful and anti-national policy. TSU must regain its status as the mother university and its corresponding mission. This is one of the main objectives of the reform,” Kobakhidze said.

The Prime Minister thanked the Minister of Education and Science, Givi Mikanadze, for his work and added that the reform is necessary to ensure that Georgian youth receive a modern standard of higher education within Georgia.

“We will certainly ensure this, and this will be the focus of our work in the coming years,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.

He also mentioned that the Minister of Education and Science, Givi Mikanadze, will provide detailed information on this matter at a special briefing.
