The government has announced that it will begin studying prices in the sector of pesticides and agro-chemical products.
Speaking at a government session, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized the importance of this issue for farmers, noting that the cost and accessibility of pesticides directly affect the production costs of agriculture, farmers’ competitiveness, and food prices.
According to Kobakhidze, Georgia faces both high pesticide prices and practices of excessive usage, presenting serious challenges in both areas.
“As you know, we have already started an in-depth review of prices in key sectors such as food, medicine, and fuel. A similar process is now being launched for pesticides and agro-chemical products.
Our assessment shows that in Georgia, pesticide prices are high and overuse is common. Both issues pose significant challenges. Based on consultations with farmers and industry specialists, the Ministries of Environment and Agriculture will soon develop a fair system. Our goal is to ensure affordable pesticide prices for the population.
I would like to thank the Minister of Environment and Agriculture for the work already done. This is a serious and important challenge, and I am confident that tangible results will be achieved in this direction,” the Prime Minister said.
