According to Tazo Datunashvili, Executive Secretary of “Strong Georgia - Lelo,” state services have become more expensive since Georgian Dream came to power in 2012.
As Datunashvili stated at a briefing, “reducing service fees depends solely on the goodwill of the authorities, who at any time can lower the prices of services they themselves have increased.”
“Since 2012, when Georgian Dream came to power, the cost of state services in Georgia has increased by 200%. Ivanishvili’s ‘Dream’ has impoverished Georgian citizens to such an extent, and the situation of our fellow citizens is so severe, that the doubled and tripled prices of state services have gone largely unnoticed. Even now, while a decorative government commission - half of whose members are millionaires - has been discussing for two days whether it is better for a pig to give birth sooner and whether the price of eggs should decrease or increase by one tetri, at the same time the so-called government of Georgian Dream has raised the marriage registration fee.
In a country with negative birth rates, a government that claims to be conservative and a defender of family values has doubled the marriage registration fee for young Georgians. Today, Georgian citizens pay two to three times more for ID cards, marriage registration, parking and fines, transportation, utilities, and other state services. This is the ‘amazing’ result Ivanishvili promised when he came to power in 2012,” Datunashvili said.
In his assessment, the country is currently facing an unbearable economic situation.
“Reducing service fees depends solely on the goodwill of the so-called authorities, who can at any time lower the prices of services they themselves increased. The question is direct: why has life become so dramatically more expensive, and why is the government trying to cover up systemic problems with one-time, decorative steps? The fact that life in Georgia has become 200% more expensive has one person responsible - Bidzina Ivanishvili, who for 14 years has placed incompetent, unqualified individuals in charge and introduced a corrupt style of governance. Until this reality changes, we will continue walking in a vicious circle, just as we have from 2012 to 2026, with prices for goods and services increased by 200%,” Datunashvili stated.
