By decision of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, the silver medalists in figure skating at the Winter Olympics, Luka Berulava and Anastasia Metelkina, will receive a total prize of 1 million GEL - 500,000 GEL each.
As the Prime Minister explained at the plenary session of Parliament, the prize amount has been doubled due to the historic victory.
“First of all, I want to congratulate our athletes on a very important success. For the first time in history, our country has won medals at the Winter Olympics, which is a tremendous achievement. The success story of Georgian sports continues. Special thanks to the main creators of this victory - Luka Berulava and Anastasia Metelkina, as well as their coaches. I am confident that this will become a foundation for very important future successes in this sport and in winter sports in general.
Here I will say that we had established a prize for prize places - for each medal and for the pair, accordingly, a prize of 500,000 GEL was set, meaning each would receive 250,000 GEL. For this victory, we are making a decision that each athlete in the pair will receive 500,000 GEL each, proceeding from the fact that this is a historic victory they have brought to our country,” - stated the Prime Minister.
